The Orchard School

Early Childhood Education, Summer Camp and Community Center

The midwinter has arrived and we are embracing the lengthening of the days and the warming of the sun. The sledding hills have been active and exciting this year. Anton and Greta built a luge on the hill over between the Orchard Hill gardens and the children have been thoroughly in love with it. Many an afternoon Anton has joined the children in their extended care sledding adventures, working on luge improvements as they joyously navigate the careful curves and bumps.

The last few days have been much warmer and the sledding hill is mushy and slow….so, the children have begun climbing and digging in the snow mountains. I was working at my computer today and in a sudden moment, there were quite a few pairs of exploring feet on the office porch (wonderful sounds to hear!). The snow falling from the roof had gotten so deep, the children could climb right up a hill and onto porch. They were tickled to have discovered the trail up and it was a lovely surprise for us all!

Last Tuesday, the Compass School brought their traveling stories with them. They performed short (and funny) skits and read poems to a captive audience of preschooler and kindergarteners.
